वैश्विक सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में उपस्थित वर्ल्ड सीस्मिक सेफ्टी इंस्टीट्यूट के सह संस्थापक प्रोफेसर किमीरो मेगुरो, सीबीआरआइ के निदेशक प्रो. आर प्रदीप कुमार एवं विशिष्ट अतिथियों ने दीप प्रज्वलन कर किया।
इस मौके पर मुख्य अतिथि प्रोफेसर किमीरो मेगुरो ने जलवायु परिवर्तन, औद्योगिक आपदाओं और वैज्ञानिक व सतत दृष्टिकोण की आवश्यकता पर विचार रखे। साथ ही उन्होंने “नकारात्मक प्रभाव को न्यूनतम करने के लिए व्यापक आपदा प्रबंधन प्रणाली” विषय पर व्याख्यान दिया।
सीबीआरआइ रुड़की के निदेशक प्रोफेसर आर प्रदीप कुमार ने भारत की उभरती अर्थव्यवस्था, आपदा-रोधी निर्माण की आवश्यकता, रेट्रोफिटिंग कार्यों तथा सुरक्षित एवं सतत भविष्य के प्रति राष्ट्र की प्रतिबद्धता पर विचार व्यक्त किए।
वहीं कार्यक्रम के आयोजन सचिव डा. अजय चौरसिया ने कार्यक्रम की रूपरेखा प्रस्तुत की। उन्होंने अवसंरचना, अवसंरचना प्रबंधन, एशिया में सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य अनुसंधान, जलवायु परिवर्तन, सतत विकास और आपदा न्यूनीकरण जैसे प्रमुख विषयों पर प्रकाश डाला। इस अंतरराष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन में 13 देशों से 350 से अधिक प्रतिभागी भाग ले रहे हैं। इनमें 50 से अधिक विदेशी प्रतिनिधि शामिल हैं।
