मुख्यमंत्री  पुष्कर सिंह धामी ने विश्व पर्यावरण दिवस के अवसर पर घोषणा की कि राज्य के चार जनपदों देहरादून, हरिद्वार, उधमसिंह नगर एवं नैनीताल में 50-50 किमी के साईकिल ट्रैक बनाये जायेंगे एवं 09 जनपदों में यथा संभव साईकिल ट्रैक बनाये जायेंगे। राज्य में स्प्रिंग व रिवर रिजुवनेशन बोर्ड बनाया जायेगा। सभी 13 जनपदों में स्वच्छता के क्षेत्र में सर्वश्रेष्ठ कार्य करने वाली एक-एक ग्राम पंचायत को पुरस्कृत किया जायेगा।

मुख्यमंत्री ने मुख्यमंत्री आवास से वर्चुअल माध्यम से सभी जिलाधिकारियों की बैठक लेते हुए निर्देश दिये कि जनपदों में पर्यावरण संरक्षण के लिए नियमित जन जागरूकता अभियान चलाये जाए और इस दिशा में विभिन्न विभागों के माध्यम से लगातार कार्य किये जाएं। उन्होंने कहा कि वृक्षारोपण एवं स्वच्छता अभियान के लिए जन सहयोग भी लिया जाए। उन्होंने कहा कि हमारी आने वाली पीढ़ियों को शुद्ध जल, हवा, मिट्टी एवं पर्यावरण मिले, इसके लिए पर्यावरण संरक्षण की दिशा में सभी को ध्यान देना होगा। वैश्विक तापमान में वृद्धि एवं जल स्तर का नीचे जाना सभी के लिए चिंता का विषय है। मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि हमारे प्रदेश का अधिकांश क्षेत्र वनों से आच्छादित है, वनों के संरक्षण के लिए हमें इससे होने वाले फायदे को लोगों की आजीविका से जोड़ना होगा जिससे इकोलॉजी पर आधारित रोजगार को बढ़ाना होगा।

वन मंत्री  सुबोध उनियाल ने कहा कि पर्यावरण संरक्षण की दिशा में सभी को मिलकर प्रयास करने होंगे। यह चुनौती पूरे विश्व की है। उन्होंने कहा कि जिस तेज गति से भौगोलिक एवं जलवायु परिवर्तन हो रहा है, यह चिंता का विषय है। राज्य में पर्यटन आधारित गतिविधियां तेजी से बढ़ रही हैं, इसके दृष्टिगत भी हमें पर्यावरण संरक्षण के लिए अधिक वृक्षारोपण एवं स्वच्छता की दिशा में और प्रयास करने होंगे। जल स्रोतों के पुनर्जीवीकरण की दिशा में विशेष प्रयास करने होंगे। पर्यावरण संरक्षण के लिए जन सहभागिता को बढ़ाना होगा, इसमें जनपदों में जिलाधिकारियों की महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका होगी। उन्होंने कहा कि वन सम्पदाओं को लोगों की आजीविका से जोड़ना जरूरी है। वन पंचायतों को मजबूत बनाना जरूरी है, लाखों लोग इससे जुड़े होते हैं।

बैठक के दौरान जिलाधिकारियों ने जनपदों में पर्यावरण संरक्षण के लिए किये जा रहे कार्यों के बारे में जानकारी दी। बैठक शुरू होने से पूर्व उड़ीसा के बालासोर में हुई रेल दुर्घटना में मृतकों के प्रति शोक संवेदना प्रकट करते हुए उनकी आत्मा की शांति के लिए दो मिनट का मौन रखा गया।
