लाइब्रेरी स्थित एक होटल के सभागार में आयोजित बैठक में संयुक्त आयुक्त राज्य कर राकेश वर्मा ने कहा कि कुछ समय से सर्विस चार्ज को लेकर भ्रांति बनी हुई है व शिकायत का आधार बन रहा है। इस पर भारत सरकार की वित्त मंत्री ने निर्देश दिया कि इस संबंध में व्यापारियों के साथ बैठक कर इस पर वार्ता कर समझाया जाय। उन्होंने कहा कि सर्विस चार्ज की किसी भी ग्राहक को देने की बाध्यता नही है वह उसकी मर्जी है कि वह दे या न दे। अगर उसकी सहमति है तो ले सकते हैं अगर नहीं देता तो उसे बाध्य नहीं कर सकते। इसके प्रति जागरूक किया जाना आवश्यक है ताकि भविष्य में विवाद पैदा न हो और कोई ग्राहक उपभोक्ता संरक्षण में वाद न दायर कर दे। उन्होंने कहा कि अगर ग्राहक की सहमति से सर्विस चार्ज लिया जाता है तो वह बिल में आयेगा व उस पर जीएसटी देना होगा। उन्होंने यह भी बताया कि पहले टिप्स के रूप में ग्राहक वेटर को देता था जिस पर उन्होंने आपसी सहमति बना कर इसे सर्विस चार्ज के रूप में लेना शुरू किया था। लेकिन इसके लिए किसी को बाध्य नहीं किया जा सकता।
