बलवीर सिंह नेगी एक अनुभवी और बहुचर्चित राजनीतिक व्यक्तित्व रहे। उन्होंने अपने राजनीतिक जीवन की शुरुआत उत्तर प्रदेश के दौर में की। वर्ष 1988 में वे जनता दल के टिकट पर पहली बार विधायक बने और लगभग 11 माह तक विधानसभा सदस्य रहे। इसके बाद उत्तराखंड राज्य गठन के बाद भी वे सक्रिय राजनीति में बने रहे।
2002 में उन्होंने (एनसीपी) से चुनाव जीतकर घनसाली से विधायक बनने का गौरव प्राप्त किया। इसके बाद वर्ष 2007 में वे कांग्रेस के टिकट पर विधायक चुने गए। विभिन्न दलों से विधायक रहते हुए उन्होंने क्षेत्र के विकास, सड़क, शिक्षा और बुनियादी सुविधाओं के लिए निरंतर आवाज उठाई।
उनके निधन पर जनप्रतिनिधियों, राजनीतिक दलों, सामाजिक संगठनों और स्थानीय लोगों ने गहरा शोक व्यक्त किया है। सभी ने उन्हें एक सरल, मिलनसार और जनसमस्याओं के प्रति संवेदनशील नेता बताते हुए श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की है। बलवीर सिंह नेगी का निधन उत्तराखंड की राजनीति के लिए एक अपूरणीय क्षति माना जा रहा है।
